NOUMEA, New Caledonia-March 3: 4:33pm(RNZI): Dengue fever has claimed a third life in New Caledonia. The mosquito-borne virus is rampant in the French territory with three deaths in the past month.

MARLBOROUGH, New Zealand-March 3: 2:26pm(STUFF NZ): In the lounge of the Marlborough Migrant Centre, Malia Foliaki takes a pen and writes ‘Ko e ‘Otua mo Tonga ko hoku Tofi’a’ – the motto of the Tongan coat of arms. It means ‘God and Tonga are my inheritance‘, and for migrants like Foliaki and her friend Vika Pahulu the saying goes deeper than words, it is a reminder of their identity.

SUVA, Fiji-March 3: 2:09pm(Fiji Sun): A security officer at the Dragon Nightclub could not clearly remember the identity nor clothes worn by the people involved in a fight where a Tongan University student was killed. Security officer Ravuama Vakaturagania was cross examined yesterday by defence lawyer, Sevuloni Valenitabua before Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva.

PORT VILA, Vanuata-March 3: 1:37pm(RNZI): A Vanuatu chief, who gained notoriety by appearing in court to face criminal charges while wearing traditional dress, claims to have set up an autonomous town along his home base in East Pentecost. Chief Viraleo said this stretch of land comprises what he called the Global Harmonious City.

Tonga’s Trade in April 2016 records TOP$ 30 million deficit

NUKU’ALOFA-March 3: 10:27am(Radio Tonga): Tonga’s foreign trade statistics for the month of April 2016 recorded a deficit of TOP$ 30.3 million. The Statistics Department reports this was the result of an excess in imports of TOP$32.7 million over export worth of almost TOP$2.4 million for the period of April 2016.

APIA, Samoa-March 3: 9:40am(RNZI): Samoa’s suspended director and assistant director for the National Prosecution Office have resigned. The move by Mauga Precious Chang and Muriel Lui comes just days after a cabinet appointed tribunal recommended to the prime minister that Ms Chang be removed from her post.
