Dr Eke says some allegations against Pohiva were true By TEVITA SILIVA NUKU’ALOFA-March 9: 6:50pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Let’s face it, Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva did not have the 100% backing of his own Cabinet during the Vote of No Confidence that he eventually survived in Parliament two Mondays ago. The fact that his Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr ‘Aisake Eke was fired last Sunday by PM Pohiva confirmed the rumours that not all was ‘pretty’ on the homefront.
PORT VILA, Vanuatu- March 9: 4:11pm(Vanuatu Daily Post): One of the women’s desire voiced during Wednesday’s International Women’s Day (IWD) in Port Vila was to be given opportunity to contest provincial elections and to increase women representatives in the Vanuatu government. In 2013, the government approved reserved seats for women in the Port Vila Municipal Council and Luganville Municipal Council in 2015.

Government’s Statistician Viliami Fifita says the 2016 census showed a decline of more than 2,000 people compared to the 2011 population census.
NEW JERSEY, USA-March 9: 1:37pm(RNZI): Lou Duva, one of the feistiest boxing trainers around and who was in New Zealand boxer David Tua corner in the early part of his professional career has died in New Jersey. He was 94. Duva, whose unforgettable face helped make him famous, spent parts of nine decades in boxing.

AUCKLAND, New Zealand-March 9: 12:27pm(RNZI): Joseph Parker’s fight against English heavyweight Hughie Fury has been scheduled for May 6 at Auckland’s Vector Arena Parker’s promoter, Duco boss David Higgins, confirmed today that the fight for the WBO world heavyweight title will take place on 6 May in New Zealand, despite Fury’s impending hearing over doping allegations.
SUVA, Fiji-March 9: 9:42am(RNZI): Fiji’s opposition SODELPA party has called for the resignation of the Fijian ambassador to the United Nations, Nazhat Shameem, after she described the past protections of the rights of indigenous Fijians as institutionalised racism. Ambassador Shameem’s comments were part of an address to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on the 1st of March.
