Tonga police benefit from Tripartite Agreement with Australian and NZ government

NUKU’ALOFA-March 22: 10:09am(Radio Tonga News): Tonga’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Lord Ma’afu and Australian High Commissioner to Tonga Andrew Ford has signed a subsidiary arrangement to allow TOP$1.3 million (US$563,000) for Tonga Police Development Project for 2017-2018.

The amount is the contribution of the Australian government as part of Tripartite Agreement with New Zealand and Tonga.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Nuku’alofa, Lord Ma’afu praised the continuous support from both governments.

He said this will no doubt help the Ministry of Police deliver their role effectively to the people of Tonga.

High Commissioner Ford said the Australian Government was happy to assist Tonga’s Ministry of Police.

He said the agreement priority is on leadership and building an efficient and effective Tonga Police Force, and Australian and New Zealand Government fully support this.
