TASANOC awarded 4 Universality places for YOG2018
NUKU’ALOFA-April 18: 12:28pm(Nuku’alofa Times): The Office of the Tonga Sports Association and National Olympic Committee (TASANOC) has received the confirmation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of four (4) Universality Places for athletes to participate in the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2018 in Buenos Aires.
According to Secretary General, Takitoa Taumoepeau, the four places were awarded to Swimming (Men), Athletic (Men), Archery (Women) and Taekwondo +63kg (Women). The places awarded were on the condition that these athletes must also meet the minimum qualification standard of their respective sports and disciplines.
Tonga will be represented in Buenos Aires but now it is up to each National Federation to identify the potential athletes and put them through a training and preparation pathway to the Games.
Takitoa also said, that these athletes may also take part and represent Tonga at the Pacific Games in 2019 here in Tonga.
The Secretary General wishes to urge administrators of these respective National Federations to liaise and work closely with TASANOC to ensure that these athletes are given the best possible environment for their training and preparation with financial assistance where possible.
