Bishop Vaka to be ordained tomorrow
NUKU’ALOFA-September 16: 1pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Bishop Afa Vaka is to be ordained tomorrow as Tonga’s new Anglican Bishop.
In what is expected to be a marathon ceremony, Nishop Vaka will be ordained at the St Paul’s Anglican Church here in Nuku’alofa.
Church officials said the ordination ceremony will be led by Archbishop Winston Halapua of the Archdiocese of Polynesia.
Bishop Vaka will lead the Tongan Anglicans, who will now have their own diocese.
He was elected two months ago in Suva.
He has been a lifetime Anglican and had rose through the ranks.
He also taught at St Andrew’s High School, the church’s lead institution here.
Family members and guests have arrived from around the world for the event.
The ordination ceremony will start at 10am.
