‘Unity’ greatest driver for Fiji’s progress: President
NADI, Fiji – October 11 3.51pm (FBC NEWS/Nuku’alofa Times): Fijian President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote, says ‘unity’ has been the single greatest driver for our progress.
In his national address on Fiji Day (October 10), President Konrote said our common identity and shared purpose have been the cornerstone of our success.
He says Fiji marked eighth straight year of economic growth this year and this growth has reduced inequality as well.
President Konrote says a nation doesn’t only succeed due to the efforts of a few but it takes hardwork from the government and every citizen.
“Today Fiji enjoys respect and prestige on the global stage like at no other time in history. Today, the Fijian people are looked to by citizens around the world as champions on some of the great challenges facing humanity. We are advocates, not only for our fellow Fijians and Pacific Islands, bit for every person on earth, as we lead the world on two of the defining issues of our time – the preservation of our oceans and the campaign against the ravages of climate change.”
Fiji celebrated the 47th anniversary of the country’s independence yesterday.
Fijians all over the world also joined in.
