PM Pohiva in hospital
NUKU’ALOFA-January 9, 2018: 4.05pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Prime Minister Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva is still admitted at the Intensive Care Unit of Vaiola Hospital.
Nuku’alofa Times has confirmed that he was admitted there early this week and is being treated for what is understood to be a temporary ailment.
The Prime Minister became ill last week and was admitted to the Medical Ward on Friday. His condition worsened on Sunday and he was admitted to the ICU yesterday where his condition stablized.
Dr Sione Latu said the illness was something acquired last week and the Prime Minister was receiving treatment, which was resolving the illness.
There was a planned evacuation to Auckland but that was cancelled.
Hon Pohiva has been sickly since he first became PM in 2014 and there have been concerns that he is not well enough to hold the top leadership post.
Meanwhile, another Cabinet Minister is also believed to be admitted in an Australian hospital.
Nuku’alofa Times is trying to confirm the news that Finance Minister Dr Pohiva Tu’ionetoa is also at a hospital in Australia for medical reasons.
