Tonga to host Pacific Media Summit here in May
NUKU’ALOFA-January 16, 2018: 1.10pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Tonga will host the Pacific Media Summit here in Nuku’alofa in May this year.
The PMS, which will bring together Pacific media personnel, will be held from May 7-11, 2018.
Tonga won the right to host the event after a bid tabled by Nuku’alofa Times Publisher Iliesa Tora at the 4th PMS in Palau in 2016 was accepted by the Pacific Islands News Association annual general meeting.
The 2018 PMS is being organised by the Department of Information at MEIDECC with support from the Tonga Media Council, the Friendly Islands Sports Journalists Association and PINA, represented by Online Media Board Member Mr Tora.
The organising committee is being chaired by MEIDECC Chief Executive Officer Mr Paula Ma’u and includes members from the different government departments/ministries including Tonga Police, Foreign Affairs/Immigration, Prime Minister’s Office and Tourism.
Close to 150 Pacific journalists and media practitioners from around the region will converge in Tonga for the event.
They will be supplemented by local journalists and media practitioners who will also attend the event.
Meanwhile, a new PINA Board is expected to be elected at the event here in Tonga as the annual general meeting of the PINA organisation is held every two years.
The current PINA President is Vanuatu’s Mr Moses Stevens.
