Prime Minister is doing well: Health Minister
NUKU’ALOFA-January 22, 2018: 1.50pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Prime Minister Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva has recovered from his illnes and is now back at work.
The Prime Minister’s Office today sent out a short media statement to the media, citing Health Minister Hon Dr Saia Piukala.
PM Pohiva was in hospital for two weeks and was confined to the Intensive Care Unit at Vaiola Hospital for strict observation and monitoring.
“The Honourable Minister for Health (Dr Saia Piukala) is pleased to inform the public that the Prime Minister is in good health and was discharged from the hospital during the weekend,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the statement also denied reports and claims that PM Pohiva has got cancer.
“It is important for the public to note that various reports in the media, stating that the Honourable Prime Minister is suffering from cancer, are untrue,” the statement said.
“The Honourable Prime Minister and his family would like to thank all who have visited and offered prayers during this very difficult time.”
There had been no official statement from the PM’s Office during Hon Pohiva’s sickness.
