US of A wins their own tournament
NUKU’ALOFA-March 5, 2018: 4pm (Nuku’alofa Times): The American Eagles has won its first ever title at home thumping Argentina 28-0 at the Las Vegas tournament today.
Tough man Danny Barrett scored two tries while speedsters Perry Baker and Carlin Isles got a try each.
Captain Ben Pinkelman says it’s an emotional moment as the team has won a title on the home soil for the first time.
“It’s a great win for us. So many emotions going in my head right now singing that national anthem. It was such a moving moment and the way we came out today with a game plan and its real,” he said.
Coach Mark Friday has been working with the team in the last three years.
Meanwhile, USA earlier beat Fiji 19-7 in the first semi-final of the Las Vegas tournament.
This was the second time the USA side had beaten Fiji, following their earlier win in Sydney last month.
Fiji finished third beating South Africa by 26-22 in the bronze play off.
Fiji led 19-5 at the half time mark, after a brace of tries coming from Jerry Tuwai and a try from Paula Dranisinukula.
Fiji 7s speedster Alasio Naduva scored the only try for the side in the second half of the game.
South Africa still leads the series with 92 points, New Zealand second on 82 points while Fiji is third with 79 points.
Vancouver in Canada will be the next stop next weekend.
