Fiji donates $50,000 to Tonga
NUKU’ALOFA-March 28, 2018: 3.10pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Fiji has given FJD$50,000 to Tonga as her assistance towards the relief work after Cyclone Gita.
Fiji’s Roving Ambassador Ratu Tui Cavuilati presented the cheque to the Ministry of MEIDECC, which also covers Disaster Management this morning.
Ratu Tui presented the cheque to MEIDECC’s Director of Corporate Service, Mr. Vatulele Tuputupu this morning at MEIDECC’s head office.
Ratu Tui said that Fiji is happy to provide the financial contribution to Tonga because of its close friendship with Tonga.
“We will be working closely together particularly in times of hardship, we will need each other.”
He stated that the Fijian Government is grateful to see things are getting back on track in Tongatapu and ‘Eua after the cyclone.
Mr. Tuputupu on behalf of the Minister and CEO for MEIDECC expressed his sincere gratitude to the Roving Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji and the Government of Fiji for their assistance and support.
He said that the financial contribution will help with the recovery effort that is currently underway.
