Fifita, Taumalolo named in Tongan squad for Samoa test
SYDNEY, Australia – June 19, 2018: 12.05pm (AAP): Andrew Fifita and Jason Taumalolo will once again provide the hard yards and the headlines for Tonga in Saturday’s Pacific Test against Samoa in Sydney.
The pair were named in a 17-man team for the clash at Campbelltown Stadium as part of a double header, with Fiji and Papua New Guinea to play in the other game.
Last year, Fifita and Taumalolo defected from Australia and Zealand respectively to wear the Tongan jersey at the Rugby League World Cup.
The tiny nation upset the Kiwis in their pool match and went on to make the semi-finals, before bowing 20-18 to England.
Warriors duo David Fusitu’a (foot) and Solomone Kata (hamstring), as well as Broncos forward Tevita Pangai Jnr (ribs), were unavailable for next weekend’s test due to injury.
Fresh from scoring four tries in South Sydney’s NRL hammering of Parramatta, winger Robert Jennings was named to make his Tonga debut.
Rabbitohs teammate Junior Tatola is the other debutant in the squad, bolstered by the inclusion of Sydney Roosters winger Daniel Tupou, who has only just returned from a pectoral injury.
Coach Kristian Woolf will add two more players to the squad during the week.
