Tonga sidewalks to be launched Wednesday
NUKU’ALOFA – July 24, 2018: 12.45pm (Nuku’alofa Times): The Nuku’alofa sidewalka project will be launched on Wednesday in Nuku’alofa.
This has been confirmed by the Ministry of Infrastrcture.

The Nuku’alofa Area Sidewalk Project launch will be at the corner of Royal Tomb ‘Mala’ekula’ and the Loumaile Lodge.
The Project is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Chinese Government through the Embassy for the People’s Republic of China in Nuku’alofa and the Dongguan City.
Total project costs is equivalent to $13m pa’anga.
That included the construction of new sidewalks and maintenance of existing sidewalks in the Nuku’alofa area.
A total of eighteen (18) roads were identified in the Nuku’alofa Area for the construction of sidewalks.
The Ministry is grateful for the ongoing assistance from the Chinese Government and the Dongguan City as this is the second support from the Dongguan City to implement infrastructure projects called by the Ministry.
The first assistance by the Dongguan City to the Ministry is through road maintenance of agricultural and tourism roads in Tongatapu approximate to $1.25million USD of total costs.
The Ministry hopes that with more constructed sidewalks at Nuku’alofa, it will provide access to safe pathways for pedestrians who travels on foot, encourage our people to a healthier lifestyle in walking/exercise for longer life span and cheaper in terms of petrol expenses.
