Auckland, New Zealand – February 20, 2019: 10am (TS): Tongan Swimmers got off to a shining start in January with stellar performances at two competitions in New Zealand.

Tongan swimmers competed at the Anthony Mosse Classic, held at the West Wave Aquatics Center in Henderson on January 18 – 20, and also at the Manukau Age Group Championships held at the Centennial Pool in Papatoetoe, on January 25 – 27.

Both Clubs from Tonga, Malolo Swim Club and Hakula Swim Club, had swimmers present and were able to achieve Personal Best Performances& Medals.

Both Swim Clubs included swimmers that recently returned from a 2-month training camp in China, and some of these swimmers literally exited the plane from China in Auckland and drove straight to the Anthony Mosse Competition to swim.

Given that Tonga has zero facilities and no proper pool, Tongan swimmers must make the most of any opportunity to compete, even if that means no rest from an international flight and straight to the competition pool.  In spite of these and many other challenges, our Tonga Swimmers managed the following results:
