New AG to take up office on June 4
Nuku’alofa – May 3, 2019: 9.30am (Nuku’alofa Times): New Attorney General, Mrs Linda Simiki Folaumoetu’i SC, will take office and commence her duties and functions as the Attorney General of the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga from Tuesday, June 4.
Mrs Folaumoetu’i was appointed on March 21 by His Majesty King Tupou VI.
She is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ombudsman Office.
Mrs Folaumoetu’i will be the 10th Attorney General since the creation of the Office in 1988, by His Majesty the Late King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV.
Attorney Generals who had served before her were Lord Tupou of Kolofo’ou (Hon Tevita Poasi Tupou SC, KC, 1988-2002), Hon. ‘Aisea Havea Taumoepeau SC (2002-2004), The Late Baron Fielakepa (Hon Siosaia Aleamotu’a SC, 2004), The Late Hon. Siasi Taimani ‘Aho (2004-2006) and Hon. ‘Alisi Numia 2.
Acting Attorney General, Mr ‘Asipeli ‘Aminiasi Kefu SC, will leave office at the end of Monday, June 3.
